End of the password?

Talkandroid are reporting that Google is working with NFC (Near Field Communication) to end the password for good, apparently this could be available for a launch in 2014. The service could allow you to unlock your device (Android phone/tablet) just by touching the key to the device. How much more secure would this make our technology? And would it actually catch on? You can already purchase a YubiKey and use it with Google’s Gmail service as part of the 2 step verification. What are you’re opinions on this and how do you think other smartphone companies will respond if Google actually release it?
