Rant 4: Stupidity

Again this is a bit of a vast subject, now I think in my own opinion people need to learn the difference between stuff online and common sense. Now this is linked to the news today that people have been destroying their iPhones because of a spoof advert claiming that the iOS 7 update contains a waterproofing update thing or some rubbish. Now common sense dictates that it is quite impossible (unless I’m majorly mistaken) to put waterproofing into a device through a software update. There are ways that water will get into the device through the exposed parts of said device i.e. The charging connector, the volume buttons, ya know anywhere where there is a little whole water can get in. Now what on this planet possessed people to believe that it’s now waterproof through a software update, what happened to common sense, when did it become common place to see something wrote on the Internet and believe that it’s 100% true? I mean come on people get serious now, just cause it’s online don make it true

iOS 7 Screenlock bypass

You’ve probably heard about this a lot with Apple saying they “are aware of the issue” now after  a quick Google search I found the method behind this security flaw, and while I’ll admit it did work on an iPad 2 running iOS 7, since the first attempt it hasn’t worked since and yeah okay I can confirm it has also worked on an iPhone 5 running iOS 7, however reports that it allows people to gain control of your twitter and stuff like that, even with it still open in the background I’ve been unable to achive this without going to the lockscreen and entering my password, so either I’ve got the method seriously wrong or these reports have been over exaggerated. If you have found the method to do this and you can gain control of everything using this flaw let me know, cause at this point from my experience all you are able to do is close background apps without unlocking your phone, which is great if you want to save battery, but it also takes a little longer then unlocking your device with the passcode, the only app I managed to gain access to was pictures, if you’d already opened the camera from the control centre, and yeah it allows you to post pictures on to twitter, so not only does it require you to have your twitter linked to your phone it also requires you to have pictures you don’t want to end up on twitter, no wonder Apple don’t appear to be in much of a hurry to fix it, it seems to assume quite a lot about the people who’s devices your “trying to hack.” Maybe I’m wrong but it does seem to require a hell of a lot of user input in advance for you to be able to do any considerable damage, if you have had a different experience with this then let me know

BlackBerry Messenger

So today BBM is meant to be available on Android, with in launching on iOS tomorrow, now I’m not sure exactly what time it will be launched as there is no news about it on the BlackBerry website, all they have is an email sign up, so I’ve given them my email address so that when it’s launched I’ll know about it, I’ve already searched GooglePlay but apart from Third party apps there is no sign of the free IM. So is it being released today for Android? or is that just a rumour? I’m not sure right now I’d say it’s unlikely to be released this weekend, however I could be wrong. So if it is released tomorrow for iOS I’ll review it cause that’s what I do. But ya know I don’t have high expectations for this

Grand Theft Auto V Sales

So theverge.com has reported that Grand Theft Auto V publisher Take-Two has announced that the game has made more then $1 billion in the last three days, making over $800 million in the first 24 hours and setting two new records. Yeah okay that’s a great achievement well done Take-Two, however take in to consideration that the price reported on Cnet earlier this week said the game averaged $60 in the US so that works out to only selling 16 million copies in America to earn that much, which of course we know isn’t true as the game has sold well all over the world, with the game apparently being cheaper in the UK then in Europe or US. So how many copies of the game where actually sold and what is the total cost for this ‘Blockbuster’ title that everyone seems to love? If I can actually find the sales figures and the total amount GTA V has sold by the end of the month I shall post it

Steambox?

Okay so I haven’t updated my blog as much as I would liked, cause I start university soon, but anyways: on to todays update. Steambox, no I haven’t gone insane this is the news that Valve may actually be making or releasing the Steambox for those who want steam in the living room. Now unless I’m not understanding steam properly, it’s a gaming system download thingy on the pc/laptop. Most computers and laptops, like TV’s, have a HDMI connection, which guess what? Allows you to use your pc/laptop on the TV with a HDMI cable, so shouldn’t this make a steambox pointless? Who is actually sitting in their house thinking ‘if only my laptop/pc could connect to the TV so I can play steam on the big screen’ Buy a HDMI cable (if your computer supports it, if not get a VGA to HDMI cable, then get the audio cables) and guess what? You could potentially save yourself some money!

Valve’s planning an announcement for Monday and it could be the Steambox

BBM for Android and iOS

The release date for the BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) app for Android has been confirmed for release on Saturday with iOS users getting it on the Sunday. Since the decline in users of BlackBerry how welcome is this new app and how will it integrate in to your social circle? With apps such as Snapchat, Whatsapp, Kik and many others do we really need a new multi platform free messenger? BlackBerry phones seem to still be a great choice for business but for consumers they seem to have made a steady decline with people opting for iPhone, Samsung, HTC and Nokia. Like some people might I will download the app and see how it runs, especially on iOS 7

BBM Android app release date is Saturday, iOS Sunday

24ct HTC One

So yesterday it was announced that the HTC One will be available in 24ct gold for £2000. Now am I the only person who remembers the last time a gold phone came out? Now unless I had a random dream involving gold phones that wouldn’t sell well, it happened before and I’m pretty sure this won’t sell well either, now unless you have a spare 2 grand laying around and lets face it these days who hasn’t right? (Yeah that is sarcasm, doesn’t come across so well)

PS Vita TV: UPDATE

Sony are releasing their PS Vita TV system in China and South Korea in 2014, with still no plan to release the system in the UK, mainland Europe or the US. So are Sony leaving us out or have they just not made plans to release the device to other consumers? I think it’s likely we will get the tech at some point in the next year or so, I’d say late 2014 to early 2015 for a release here, so remember if it’s released around that time I predicted it. What is important to remember is PS Vita TV was originally slated for release in Japan only. Check out the link from Pocket-lint below
